The dogtag necklace featured here says Ronin in Japanese kanji. In Japan, a ronin is a masterless samurai – literally, ‘wave man’ (understood as ‘a man tossed around like a wave’). I think the connotation has become “lone warrior”.
And a lot of guys seem to identify with being a Ronin. Maybe your guy, or your dad, is one of them? This could be a great gift for him. And Father’s Day is coming up. Just saying.
P.S. Or, you know, if you’re a secret warrior? It doesn’t matter if other people know it – you know. And maybe you too are a secret Ronin.
Letting your mom know that you realize that she *has* dreams is a gift in it self – that you recognize her as a person with hopes, fears, and dreams – that’s a major deal. These pretty little earrings are just the icing on the cake, since there are other gifts you can get like collars or a diamond ring which you can find at sites like randor.com and others.
Of course custom colors are available. Custom kanji, too – but I do think it’s nice to tell your Mom know that you know that she dreams. That she’s a person. That you value her as a person.
All that good stuff. That’s the real gift to your Mom 🙂
Okay, I lose track, all right? I just wanted to show you these new earrings. They are personalized, part of my “Your Name in Japanese” collection, and I think the size and shape really work.
The earrings are only about 1″ long. The golden (raw) brass leverbacks are comfortable, much kinder to the skin than plated earwires – and considerably less expensive than goldfilled ones (which can be used too, by special arrangement). And, well, I think the slightly curvy, triangle shape is pretty cool.

I’m all fired up making personalized kanji earrings and necklaces – several people have asked for custom work (which is always fun) – and I’m loving these new pieces! These “Rebecca” earrings were made as a gift from daughter to mother – and Mom was thrilled 🙂
I’m also working on some new techniques that are time-savers. Saving time means they cost less – so these new styles are proving popular – hey, we all like saving money!

The earrings I’m showing in this post say Shiawa, or Happiness, in Japanese kanji. I thought they were particularly appropriate tonight – because tomorrow is a new year, and it’s going to be a good one 🙂
May all my buds have a great time tonight (I’m leaving in a few mins to meet them). May we all STAY INSIDE for the evening. Let other people drive around with the crazy drunks on the road. We’re going to tuck it in – and have a ball.

The Japanese katakana (kanji) here says “shikara” has the context of strength – or power, which is a pretty interesting connotation.
And either way, these are pretty earrings! A customer requested the light purple, or lilac, color… and I thought the petal shape worked well with the delicate shade:
And not that this is a suggestion or anything, just as an idea – paper earrings are great for the first year, or paper, anniversary. And if your wife is a new mom, well, “Mom” really DOES equal strength and power.
But you knew that already 🙂
And yes, you have probably guessed that they are a popular gift choice. I mean, if it was your paper (first) anniversary, and you had to find a paper present, and you know your wife likes jewelry, wouldn’t “Wife” be a cool pair of earrings for her?
Especially when you know you can get them in her favorite color. And that they’re comfortable and kind of fun too 🙂

I love the contrast – a soft grey tone (or color of your choice) and a delicate shape. And the kanji says Abunai, or Dangerous 😉
 So when you’re wearing these pretty (comfortable!) earrings with your light yellow cashmere sweater and light gray pencil skirt – or white tank top and scuffy jeans – and somebody says hey, what do your earrings say? You can smile, and tell them. Or not. But hey, just for fun how about a piece with a sweater?

These pretty, patterned earrings are making a bit of a splash for me this spring – they say Haha, or Mother, in Japanese kanji:
Like all Paper Jewels they’re lightweight – so they’re comfy. I don’t know about you but that matters to me! Of course they can be special ordered in custom colors (and can be made smaller or larger) – though I do have to say, people have been very receptive to this blue zircon, green and golden combo.
And of course, Mother’s Day holiday is coming. Just sayin!
